15 Tips to Boost Curb Appeal

April 6, 2015

First impressions are quick to form and slow to change.  Don't let trash cans, weeds, and a stuck front door greet your potential homebuyer.  The subtle messages sent are difficult to undo regardless of how beautifully the rest of your home shows.  Take some time before listing your property to boost your curb appeal by following this handy checklist:

1.  Lawn:  cut to 2 inches, no empty patches, green and dense, edged, weeded

2.  Garden: no weeds, replace faded mulch, label plants and flowers

3.  Trees & Shrubbery:  trim, no dead vegetation

4.  Mailbox: paint post to match home, no rust on box

5.  Driveway/Walkway:  clean and power wash, solar lights

6.  Porch & Entryway:  clean and welcoming, add decor like mat, flowers, plants, or tile for extra appeal

7.  Light Fixtures:  update, clean, light bulb works

8.  Front Door & Hardware:  clean, new coat of paint, no rust, doesn't stick

9.  House Siding & Fence:  clean and power wash

10. House Number:  visible from street, matches style of home

11. Windows & Shutters:  clean, paint window shutters, flower boxes

12. Blinds/Curtains:  open, natural light coming in

13. Deck:  clean, no clutter, welcoming, stain or paint if needed

14. Everything away:  no lawn care tools or toys in yard, garbage can out of street view

15. Make Repairs: cracks in driveway, gutters, screen door
