Real Life Connections
Scrolling back through a few months of posts on the Nextdoor Melbourne Village website, I can see how helpful it has been to the 43% of the people in my town who use it...lost pets become found pets, plumbers and electricians are referred by neighbors who actually used them, a log splitter was sold and chairs were given away. And that's just the tip of the 'niceberg'!
Melbourne Village is a tight-knit community to begin with, but this tool has just improved our ability to connect. With Nextdoor.com, a neighborhood 'lead' or team of 'leads' ceate a private virtual space (with just a few clicks) where users can log in securely, and ask questions, extend invitations, make announcements, get to know one another, and exchange local advice and recommendations. It is a social network where people can connect to one of the most important communities in their lives - the neighborhood they live in. And when neighbors start talking, good things happen.
If you live in Melbourne Village you can join here or if you are interested in getting your own neighborhood connected on Nextdoor.com, you can check out a demo site here.
